Lightburn Setup for Galvo

Galvo Lightburn is a separate license. Once installed, the device profile, lens calibration, and material library are the three things you'll actually touch every day.

1. License and version

  • Buy the Galvo license, the standard "DSP" Lightburn license does not control fiber galvos.
  • Both licenses can be on the same PC. Use one app, just choose the right device for the machine you're running.

2. Add the device

  1. Plug USB from the laser to PC. Power on the laser.
  2. Lightburn → Devices → "Find my Laser" or "Create Manually."
  3. Choose JCZFiber / BJJCZ (sometimes labeled EZCAD2). Field size: enter the size for your active lens (e.g. 110×110 for 150mm).
  4. Origin: front-left is fine; the working area is centered on the field anyway.

3. Import EZCAD correction file

Each lens shipped with a .cor calibration file from the factory (often on a USB stick). Lightburn → Device Settings → "Correction file" → load it. This compensates for galvo distortion so squares stay square.

4. Set up two device profiles

Save one profile per lens, for example "Fiber 70mm" and "Fiber 150mm", each with its own correction file and field size. Switch from the device dropdown.

Tip
Name your profiles with the field size in the title. You'll thank yourself when you're a week deep in production and accidentally framing a 100mm logo on a 50mm field.

5. Material library

Window → Material Library. Build entries as you go: "Stainless / Black / 70mm", "Anodized AL / White / 150mm". Every entry stores power, speed, frequency, pulse width, and passes. Deep dive: Material Library Files (.clb).

6. Leave the timing/delay settings alone

Device Settings → Timings has fields for Jump Delay, Polygon Delay, Mark Delay, Laser On/Off Delay. Tutorials online will tell you to micro-tune these. Don't.

The factory defaults shipping with the BJJCZ/JCZ board are already dialed in for the galvo speed and source pulse characteristics. A community member spent 3 hours tuning these under a high-powered microscope, photographing the test marks at every step, and ended up reverting to the defaults, they were perfect.

  • Touch them only if you have a SPECIFIC SYMPTOM (e.g., laser-on-delay too short = first dot of every line is faint; jump delay too short = traversal lines visible in fills).
  • For unexplained quality issues, focus is 100x more likely to be the cause than timing settings.
  • If you do tune, change ONE field, run the test, document the result. Never tune multiple fields at once.
Defaults are good
Skip the timing rabbit hole at the start of your fiber journey. Get great at frequency, power, speed, focus, and lens calibration first, those control 95% of your output quality.
