Jigs, Fixtures & Production
A good jig turns a 5-minute part into a 30-second part. Repeatable position = repeatable settings = consistent results.
Build a jig the right way
- Decide the part datum, usually a corner or center.
- Engrave (or laser-cut on a CO2) a position template on a sheet of MDF or aluminum.
- Add hard stops at the datum corners, pins, blocks, magnets.
- Mark Z height in the jig spec sheet so you can re-set focus instantly.
- Number / date / version the jig. Store with the job folder.
Multi-part fixtures
Fit as many parts as possible into one field. Lightburn duplicates the design across the array, runs them all in one job. 8-up, 16-up, the galvo doesn't care.
Variable text and serialization
Lightburn supports CSV-driven variable text. Build a layout with a placeholder text element, point it at a CSV column. Each "Run" pulls the next row. Great for serialized tags, names, dates.
Tip
For big production runs, pair variable text with a foot pedal. Load part → tap pedal → unload. Hands-free flow. The foot pedal connects to the laser's accessory port (varies by brand, check your manual).
