High-Sales Production Items

Beyond firearms and knives, the metal items that consistently sell for fiber laser businesses. Volume sellers, premium niches, and seasonal hits. Each entry: substrate, lens, settings reference, jig, and pricing range.

Volume sellers (under $25, high turnover)

Pet ID tags

The single highest-volume product in the fiber community. Stainless or anodized AL discs, 25-35mm, with name + phone + address. Etsy stores routinely run 100+/week.

  • Substrate: stainless 304 (round, bone, heart shapes) or anodized AL (more colors).
  • Lens: 70mm. Fine spot resolves small text under 2mm.
  • Settings: see Black Mark on Stainless Steel (or Anodized Aluminum for AL tags).
  • Jig: 3D-printed multi-up tray (8-up or 16-up). Magnetic if steel.
  • Pricing: $5-15 each. Bulk break at 50+ pieces.
  • Pro tips: stock 5-10 popular shapes/colors; offer same-day on phone-engraved tags. The repeat-customer rate is high, pet owners get new tags every couple years.

Keychains & EDC

Anodized AL bar keychains, stainless ID cards, mini bottle openers, fidget spinners, AirTag holders. Low cost, easy customization.

  • Substrate: anodized AL bars/discs, stainless cards, brass dogtags for premium feel.
  • Lens: 70mm.
  • Settings: see Anodized Aluminum; 1500-2500 mm/s, 35% power, 50 kHz, 15 ns pulse.
  • Jig: 8-up flat tray.
  • Pricing: $8-20 each.

Bottle openers (personalized)

Wedding favors, groomsmen gifts, corporate giveaways. Stainless flat openers or wall-mount with names/dates.

  • Substrate: stainless flat blanks (commonly available 100-150mm long).
  • Lens: 150mm, fits the full opener length.
  • Pricing: $12-25 single, $8-15 each in 50+ for weddings/corporate.

Premium pieces ($40-200)

Tumblers (powder-coated stainless)

YETI, Stanley, RTIC, Polar Camel, coated and uncoated. Names, monograms, full wraparound art.

  • Substrate: powder-coated 20oz / 30oz / 40oz tumblers.
  • Lens: 150mm with rotary. 200mm if you have it for severely tapered shapes.
  • Settings: see Anodized Aluminum (powder coat behaves similarly). 2000 mm/s, 35-50% power, 50 kHz, 15 ns pulse.
  • Pricing: $20-35 logo single side; $65-95 full wrap photo; $40-60 monogram + name; bulk corporate orders $15-25 each.
  • Pro tip: custom Polar Camel branding for retailers gives you a B2B revenue stream beyond direct-to-consumer.

Zippo lighters

Iconic personalization product. Brass + chrome cases take fiber engraving beautifully. The custom Zippo market is huge, search "engraved Zippo" on Etsy and you'll see thousands of listings.

  • Substrate: standard polished chrome, brushed brass, matte black, custom Zippo finishes.
  • Lens: 70mm, fine detail on a small flat surface.
  • Settings: brass: see Brass / Copper. Chrome: light brushing first to break the polish, then mark like stainless. Black-coated Zippos: ablate the coating like anodized AL.
  • Jig: small V-block holding the closed case flat side up.
  • Pricing: $25-65 single. Repeat military / firefighter / first-responder market.

  • Substrate: stainless tool body (varies by model).
  • Lens: 70mm for fine name/date; 150mm for full logos across the body.
  • Settings: Black Mark on Stainless settings work. Test on the inside (hidden) face first, Leatherman and Gerber bodies have slight curvature.
  • Pricing: $25-50 engraving fee on customer-supplied multi-tool. $80-150 if you supply the tool.

Money clips & cuff links

Premium men's accessories. Stainless or sterling silver. Often paired with personalized leather wallets.

  • Substrate: stainless, sterling silver (use silver settings. See Brass / Copper / Silver).
  • Lens: 70mm.
  • Pricing: $20-40 engraving fee on customer-supplied; $60-150 if shop-supplied.

Hip flasks

Curved stainless or pewter, 6-8oz. Names, dates, monograms, or larger custom art.

  • Substrate: stainless (most common), brushed nickel, pewter (pewter is soft. Drop power 30%).
  • Lens: 150mm, DOF tolerates the flask's curve.
  • Pricing: $25-55 single; popular as groomsmen / bachelor party gifts.

Wedding rings (titanium / tungsten / stainless)

Inside engraving, names, dates, coordinates, a meaningful phrase. High-emotional-value market with serious word-of-mouth potential.

  • Substrate: titanium (best, colors easily for accent), tungsten carbide (very hard, surface mark only), stainless.
  • Lens: 70mm with chuck rotary. Mandatory, 150mm spot is too coarse for ring-inside text.
  • Settings: see Brass / Copper / Titanium for Ti; Deep Engraving settings for Tungsten (slow, many passes).
  • Pricing: $40-80 inside engraving; $80-180 if you also do exterior color or pattern.
  • Caveat: tungsten is HRC ~85, surface mark only; deep engrave will fracture the ring.

Belt buckles (rodeo, western, fashion)

Large flat metal canvas, perfect for color annealing. Western/rodeo market is huge in TX, OK, AZ, the Plains.

  • Substrate: stainless, brass, sometimes silver-plated.
  • Lens: 150mm (most buckles 80-100mm wide).
  • Settings: color annealing on stainless takes well; brass deep-engrave for traditional western look.
  • Pricing: $50-150 customization; $150-400 full custom design + buckle.

  • Pricing: $15-35 monogram or short text.

Apple Watch case backs

Engrave the watch back itself (stainless or titanium). Niche but premium.

  • Pricing: $25-50, but customer must accept that engraving voids Apple's warranty.

Memorial & sympathy market

Pet memorial pieces

High emotional value, low price sensitivity. Ash urns with paw prints + names, photo plaques, memorial coins.

  • Substrate: stainless plates (60×80mm to 100×150mm), brass or aluminum coin blanks.

  • Pricing: $50-200 individual; bulk orders from funeral homes are recurring revenue.

Specialty / niche

  • Settings: color anneal on stainless plates per Color Annealing on Stainless / Titanium. Anodized AL plates per Anodized Aluminum.

  • Substrate: stainless or brass coin blanks, 30-50mm.

What NOT to make on a 60W fiber

  • Cheap tin / nickel novelty items ($1-3 retail), labor cost exceeds margin.
  • Anything copper-bare under 1" wide: copper reflectivity wastes time vs. revenue.
  • Solid silver jewelry over 30mm: soft metal, conservation issues, customer disputes about color shift.
  • Cell phone covers: engrave depth is shallow, customer expectations are high. Frustration leader.
  • Anything where customer expects perfectly invisible repair if they hate the result: engraving is permanent. Set expectations clearly upfront.

Seasonal calendar (US market)

  • Q1: wedding planning starts → ring engraving, save-the-date pieces, bridesmaid / groomsmen gifts.
  • Q2: Mother's / Father's Day → personalized pieces, pet tags, photo engraves.
  • Q3: back-to-school → keychains, water bottles, school spirit items. Wedding peak.
  • Q4: CHRISTMAS, start prep October 1, 60-70% of annual revenue here. Ornaments, custom Zippos, family sets, corporate gifts.
  • Year-round steady: pet tags, Glock backplates, multi-tools, memorial pieces, corporate orders.
