CO2 Safety

Same rules as fiber, with extra emphasis on fire, CO2 cuts organics, and organics burn.

Fire

  • Class C extinguisher within reach.
  • Never run unattended. Period.
  • Acrylic and wood can flare suddenly, keep your eye on the cut.
  • Empty the catch tray often. A buildup of debris is a fire hazard.

Eyes

  • Nova Plus is enclosed Class 1, viewing window blocks 10600nm. Don't defeat the interlock.
  • If you ever run with the lid open (don't), wear OD 5+ glasses rated for 10600nm. CO2 wavelength is different from fiber, dedicated glasses.

Laser glasses are a filter for one band of light, not sunglasses for lasers. OD 5+ means the lens cuts the beam 100,000 times at its rated wavelength. Check the rating printed on the lens before you trust a pair.

Fume

  • HEPA + carbon extractor, vented out per code.
  • Never cut PVC, vinyl, ABS without active extraction (and even then, prefer not).
