Lightburn Setup for Ruida
Standard Lightburn (DSP edition) talks to Ruida natively. Setup is straightforward.
1. Add device
- Connect via Ethernet (preferred, IP-based. Never disconnects mid-job) or USB.
- Lightburn → Devices → Find My Laser. Should auto-detect Ruida.
- Bed size: enter your machine's working area (verify in the manual, Thunder Nova Plus 35 = ~900 × 600 mm; OMTech AF2028 = ~700 × 500 mm; Boss LS-1416 = ~14 × 16 inches; etc.).
- Origin: rear-left for most Thunder, OMTech, and Boss machines; rear-right for some others. Verify on your machine, there's typically a sticker near the home position.
2. Test connectivity
- Click "Home", head should home to corner.
- "Get position", coordinates should update in Lightburn.
- "Read", pull current settings out of the Ruida and into Lightburn.
3. Cuts vs scans
CO2 in Lightburn uses two main layer modes:
- Line: vector cut/score along a path.
- Fill: raster fill an area (like fiber hatch, but the gantry is moving).
- Image: bitmap raster with dithering.
- Offset Fill: concentric infill, useful for clean burns on wood.
Tip
Set "Cut Through" in line layers when cutting acrylic, Lightburn will adjust kerf compensation and corner handling automatically.
