Focus & Autofocus

Nova Plus has autofocus. Use it. But know how to do it manually for jigs that confuse the probe.

The cone of light is the same in all three. Only the height of the material changes, and with it the size of the spot that does the work.

Autofocus

  1. Place the part. Make sure the autofocus probe will land on a flat surface, not a hole.
  2. Press Auto Focus on the Ruida panel, or fire it from Lightburn.
  3. Head drops, probe touches material, head retracts to the lens's focal distance.

Manual focus

  1. Use the focus puck/stick that came with the lens. 2" lens has a different puck than 4".
  2. Place puck on material. Lower head until it just clears.
  3. Remove puck; you're focused.

Lens swap

2" lens → fine engrave, sharp cuts up to ~6mm. 4" lens → cuts 8-15mm cleanly with vertical edges, but engrave detail drops. Swap takes 2 minutes; recalibrate autofocus puck height after swapping.
